"The countries of the Caspian region are planning to increase the capacity of ports by 1.5 times by 2020, from 103 million to 150.6 million tonnes. By this time, the share of Aktau and Kuryk ports in the cargo turnover of the Caspian countries will increase from 26% to 31%," A. Turikpenbayev said.

"The Trans-Caspian international transport route Association, which is already legally registered in Nur-Sultan, has been created, and we are jointly developing products for our customers with the help of this platform. Several test routes of trains have already been conducted. We hope that next year we will transport almost 75–100 thousand containers per year," A. Turikpenbayev noted.

In 2019, 7.5 million tonnes of cargo are planned to be shipped through the ports of Aktau and Kuryk. Last year, 6.4 million tonnes of various cargo was transhipped through the ports of Aktau and Kuryk. "This year it is planned to ship oil in the amount of 2.9 million tonnes through the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, dry cargoes of 2.3 million tonnes and ferries of 2.3 million tonnes," A. Turikpenbaev said.

The seaport of Aktau is managed by the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national company. 100% of the port’s shares are in its trust management. The port of Kuryk is located 100 km south of the port of Aktau, on the line of the Trans-Caspian international transport route, which runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries.

The port is focused on transshipment of grain, petroleum products, fertilisers, chemicals, and other goods to the neighboring states of the Caspian region. The design capacity of the port of Kuryk as a whole will amount to 6 million tonnes of cargo per year.
