Length of toll roads in Kazakhstan to reach 11.7 thousand km by 2025
By 2025, 11.7 thousand km of roads in Kazakhstan will be paid, the Minister for Investments and Development Zhenis Kasymbek said. Work on introduction of charging systems is currently being carried out on the sites of Astana - Temirtau, Almaty - Kapshagai and Almaty - Khorgos.
As the minister noted, the total length of roads is 471 km and a test launch is planned for September 2018. "The development of design estimates for the installation of a charging system at 13 sites with a total length of 5,500 kilometres, including the international transit corridor Western Europe-Western China, which is planned by the PPP mechanism or for account of other sources of financing," Kasymbek added.
Also, the Ministry is working on the installation of special automated measuring tools on the roads of national importance. "To date, there are 12 SAMTs. In the current year, 11 more SAMTs are planned to be launched in the framework of the introduction of payment in the areas Astana - Temirtau, Almaty - Kapshagai and Almaty - Khorgos. In 2019-2020 34 SAMTs on toll roads and border checkpoints will be installed. In general, by the end of 2020, it is planned to increase the number of SAMTs to 57 units," the head of the Ministry concluded.
