Kazakhstan-China freight traffic increases by almost 40%

In Urumqi (China), a working meeting of the delegations of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy was held, headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the company Kanat Almagambetov and LLC Urumchi Railway Chairman of the Board Zhang Haitao, according to the press -service of Kazakhstan’s National Railway company.

The parties summed up the work of the border railways of Kazakhstan and the PRC in 2018, reviewed measures for the implementation of the freight traffic volume in 2019.

It was noted that in 2018 the traffic volume between Kazakhstan and the PRC amounted to 13,979 thousand tons, which is 38% more on-year. In particular, 8,500 thousand tons of various cargoes were transported from Kazakhstan to China last year, which is 54% more on-year.

"During the meeting, representatives of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and the PRC approved the projected traffic volumes for 2019 in the amount of more than 15,700 thousand tons of cargo. An agreement was reached on the transportation and acceptance of grain cargo in big bags and specialized grain wagons to / through the Alashankou station, Khorgos station, as well as vegetable oil in tank cars from Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation to the PRC in the amount of up to 500 thousand tons through the Alashankou-Dostyk border crossing, with rearrangement of carriages at Dostyk station", - KTZ informed.

From February 2019, it is expected that gas pipes will be transported from China to the station of Kazakhstan in the amount of 280,000 tons. “Joint measures help to increase the volume of cargo carriages by rail through our border crossings with China, and also create prerequisites for the effective functioning of a single railway space in the Eurasian region,” said Kanat Almagambetov.
